Frizzy hair, oily roots, dry ends, shedding!?
If you've suffered from any of these then you have come to the right place my friend. I constantly find myself giving hair advice to other girls that suffer from these issues & to be honest, I'm gonna say I've gotten pretty good at coming up with solutions for these problems. I personally have very thin frizzy hair that gets oily the day after I wash it & living in Miami's insane humidity & tropical weather does not help!
So here's a list of my favorite hair hacks:
1. Don't use conditioner on your roots!
If you suffer from oily roots, you should not be putting conditioner on your scalp. It only shortens the amount of time between washes & chances are your scalp doesn't even need it. Shampoo twice & condition your hair from the ears down.
2. Massage your scalp.
Yes, you read that right. A quick 2-5 minute massage is a great way to stimulate the scalp & improve circulation up there! This will lead to the production of more hair follicles, so get that blood flowing & you might even see some extra hair growth each month.
* You can try massaging your scalp while you shampoo.
3. Be gentle when drying your hair.
Drying your hair too roughly with a towel can actually create more frizz after it dries. Try gently wrapping your hair up in a towel for a few minutes instead or use use a towel that is smoother.
4. Don’t detangle your hair while it’s wet.
Combing your hair while it's still wet might actually cause some breakage that will eventually lead to unwanted frizz. To avoid that just wait until it's dry! & if you normally have a hard time detangling your hair, you can try waiting until your hair is half dry instead.
5. Comb your hair from the bottom up.
I feel like this is a pretty known one but it honestly blew my mind when I first heard it as a kid. If you comb your hair from the bottom up it's much easier to detangle it & you might even avoid some frizz.
6. Comb, don't brush!
Use a comb instead of a brush. A comb will detangle your hair & do its job, a brush on the other hand, will only leave your hair looking like you just got electrocuted (I know you know what I'm talking about). If you don't know the difference between a comb & a brush... it's pretty simple: a brush is soft & a comb is not.
7. Use a hair mask!
If you have very frizzy hair you should consider adding a hair mask to your monthly or even weekly routine. It will hydrate your hair & get rid of some frizz. You can make your own at home. I personally love our Replenish mask. It does a really great job of repairing & hydrating the hair.
8. Try heatless hairstyles.
There are tons of creative ways to curl your hair without having to apply heat to it! You can simply twist sections of your hair & keep it that way until it dries, or make French braids on your hair & undo them once the hair dries.
9. Switch to naturally based products.
It’s amazing how different your hair & scalp will feel when you switch over to products that have less harmful chemicals & toxins. The US only has a few ingredients banned from beauty products, while Europe & Canada have thousands banned. So try looking for hair supplies that are more natural, & lean towards those that go by European beauty standard.
10. Use cold water on your hair.
We tend to forget that our bodies perform better when we shower with cold water. There are so many benefits like more alertness, better immunity & circulation, & it can even stimulate weight loss & help with depression! Since we‘re talking about hair though, washing with cold water can actually make your hair look shinier, stronger, & even reduce some frizz. It can also prevent dirt from getting in by tightening the pores on your scalp.
