12 Instagram Hacks that Actually Work!
Whether you're trying to run a successful business on Instagram or simply building a brand for yourself, here are a few tips that are sure to help you gain more followers & engagement.
1. Stop posting so many selfies.
It's fine to post a selfie every once in a while but your instagram feed should not be filled with only self taken portraits of yourself. If you don't have someone to take a photo of you, just set up a tripod & take a full body pic. They're super affordable on Amazon & it will completely change the way your profile looks.
2. Post only good quality photos.
Blurry & grainy photos only look cute when they're intentional. Otherwise, they should be deleted from your profile immediately.
3. Add some value to your photo by adding a comment.
It doesn't have to be a paragraph but as social media grows, users tend to want a stronger connection to the people they follow. A quick comment will be more engaging for you & your followers. Maybe even ask a question.
4. Boomerangs & short videos.
Add some variety to your profile by posting some boomerangs & videos. Just make sure you have good lighting & remember to choose a frame that looks good before posting!
5. Use your story.
Your Instagram stories are a great way to engage with your followers. You can ask questions, create quizzes, & now you can even vote! Take advantage of these features to bring in some traffic to your profile. Just remember to keep it simple & not overwhelm your followers with content. Also remember to post about your daily life. Sure, having a really good looking profile is important but people also want to know what's going on behind the scenes. You can use apps like WordSwag, Unfold, & Instories to make really cool story posts.
6. Story highlights
If you want to get a little organized, go through your story highlights & choose a few to keep on your profile. You can even add a cover to give your feed a cleaner look. A few examples are: friends, food, books, outfits, travel... & you get my point right?
7. Choose a theme.
Some of the most successful Instagram profiles have a theme they always stick to. Whether it's posting only certain kinds of photos or editing them a certain way. You can use apps like Lightroom, VSCO, & Afterlight to edit your photos.
8. Don't edit your photos with Instagram filters.
Instagram is great, but their photo filters suck. So don't use them. Instead use the apps I mentioned on number 7.
9. Use your Instagram bio wisely.
Remember that your bio is the first thing people see when they tap on your profile. Well, that & your photos but we already covered that one on number 7. Add a brief introduction about you &/ or your brand. Something that will tell potential followers who you are & what they will gain from following you.
10. Do not post links on your bio unless you know how to crop them.
It looks really unattractive when you post a link on your bio & its longer than the 5,000 word essay I had to write for school last week. Please do yourself a favor & use a website that crops & customizes your link before posting it on Instagram. Go to Bitly.com, it's super easy to use & your bio will look much cleaner.
11. Post consistently.
If you’re trying to build a brand on any social media platform, consistency is key. Posting 1 good quality photo with a good caption a day is better than posting 2 photos on Monday, zero on Tuesday, 3 on Wednesday, & 1 on Thursday.
12. Switch your profile to a business account.
Switching your profile to a business account not only looks cooler, but it also comes with a bunch of new features & gadgets that the personal profile just doesn’t have. One of the most important things you can do with a business profile is checking what times your followers are most active. That way you can post at the best time possible.
